Content Management Systems and Application Frameworks

I have extensive experience with content management systems, from both a technical and resource management perspective, alongside experience with all major web content management systems, including Alfresco, Drupal, and Wordpress, dating back to 1999, when I was a beta tester for the Movable Type blogging system. As Help Development Lead at GE Fanuc, I helped the technical writing team build out an open, XML-based authoring model based on IBM’s DITA schematic, which helped standardize authoring across web and print and reduce unnecessary duplication of content.

At my current employer, I’ve worked with a number of departments to build websites using the Drupal and Wordpress frameworks, making use of the multisite capabilities of those frameworks to reduce unnecessary maintenance and duplication of effort. I have worked with multiple departments as part of this work, helping to standardize wherever possible, and provided guidance where needed.

Open Source

I'm an avid supporter of Open Source software, and contribute back to development communities when and where I can. I have contributed patches and projects to Mahara, Elgg, Open Conference Systems, and Drupal, along with many other, smaller open source projects.

You can find me on Github, where I helped Athabasca University create their own institutional repository for sharing back to the development community. I also write a set of tutorials on Swift development, and have written a book and several book chapters for designers and other non-technical people interested in the web.
